Lattice

Lattice is a site-specific woven textile created for an office building in South London. Installed in July 2024.

Commissioned by Madeline Kessler.

Hannah was inspired by the softly graphic patterns created by the shadows of balconies and window frames in the lobby space.  She sought to reflect the changing qualities of daylight filtering through windows and between the branches of trees outside.  She is interested in shifting colour effects and negative space.

The soft, warm colours draw on key features of the interior space and natural forms Vauxhall Park. The design uses a vertical gradation of dark, through light grey and ecru which creates different interactions with the brighter colours used in horizontal stripes. The colour choices are designed to create optical mixing effects and suggest that the pattern changes its form throughout the piece, as graphic stripes seem to shift into delicate diamonds. The cloth has different colour and pattern effects at each level of the building. Hannah was keen to make use of the tall narrow space with colour, playfulness and softness.

Lattice was designed by Hannah Robson and woven in collaboration with Ogam Jacquard Weavers Ltd.
